Reporting can apply without a Hungarian subsidiary
A foreign business with Hungarian VAT registration may need to report invoice data to NAV even without a local subsidiary or employees. Have your tax adviser establish the invoices in scope based on your transactions and the applicable invoicing rules.
Three tasks to assign
- VAT registration: arrange the Hungarian VAT number and representation with your adviser.
- Invoice reporting: send invoice data to NAV Online Invoice. RTIR provides this technical connection.
- VAT return: a separate filing process, which invoice reporting does not complete.
Keep your existing ERP
Continue issuing invoices in your existing system. RTIR receives invoice data through API or SFTP, submits it to NAV and retrieves the processing result. If your ERP cannot produce NAV XML, we design a custom data mapping.
Five inputs for setup
- Hungarian taxpayer identity and reportable invoice scope.
- ERP details and API or SFTP delivery method.
- Finance and IT contacts.
- Online Invoice registration, technical user and permissions.
- Anonymised sample invoices, including corrections.
What happens if reporting fails?
Finance resolves missing or incorrect invoice data. The technical owner investigates connectivity failures. If the outcome is uncertain, the NAV status must be checked first. We agree these owners and the correction process before launch.
What to include in your enquiry
Start with your ERP name, VAT-registration stage, expected invoice volume and available data format. We use these to assess the integration and agree implementation, recurring service and support costs for your setup.
Questions before implementation
Does a Hungarian VAT registration always mean every invoice must be reported?
No. The applicable invoicing rules, transaction and exceptions determine the reporting scope. A Hungarian VAT number alone is not a sufficient test. Confirm the scope with your tax adviser.
Can we retain our ERP without a Hungarian subsidiary?
The technical connection can be designed around your existing ERP. NAV access, taxpayer permissions and the invoice data in scope must be established before implementation.
